Current YDC members:

Tracey Sadgrove - Schenker (NZ) Ltd
“The freight industry is a multinational, multicultural, multifunctional, fast paced and IT intensive industry. These aspects coupled with continually working and communicating with colleagues in most other parts of the world has broadened my knowledge of both International and Local government regulations.
Also, as freight is a component of most businesses, I have been able to work with a wide variety of clients and industries which in turn makes every day different and challenging. All these aspects have improved me as a person and have improved my qualifications for the job market.”

Lisa Jensen - UTI (NZ) Ltd
"The freight logistics industry covers such a wide range of different areas which continually provides me with the opportunity for further training, learning & new experiences. Dealing with people from all over the world on a day to day basis has expanded my knowledge of different cultures & communicating with people from these different countries adds another challenge to the job! The opportunities available to further myself are endless & I relish being able to grow from the experiences the industry provides. I also enjoy building relationships within the industry & the huge variety of people you meet everyday!"

Tania Riddell - UTI (NZ) Ltd
“Due to the constantly growing and evolving industry that is freight forwarding, no two days in this job are the same!
This leaves so much room for personal growth and development. In my job, I am never without something to learn, which I think is an important factor in keeping your mind focused & interested.
There is such a variety of jobs in this industry, and anyone who gets their foot in the door will be surprised how many career options they do have. Another major plus is developing relationships both nationally and internationally. This can prove invaluable to future career prospects (not to mention having someone to call when you get lost travelling!!).”

Crystal Johnson, Rohlig
"Freight forwarding is such a fast paced exciting industry, where everyday you’re doing something new and learning different aspects of freight.
No problem has the same solution which requires you to think outside the box, I have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues from all over the globe and I have formed some amazing friendships along the way.
Its interesting to see some of the freight which arrives and departs our Warehouse, I also get the chance to be a part of Project Logistics which is exciting and fantastic to learn about.
I can honestly say that I enjoy coming into work everyday to see what my day is going to have in store for me."

Josh Peters, Mondiale
"Working in an industry where I have the opportunity of dealing with a such a wide variety of retailers and numerous government departments, I have developed a genuine interest for learning which I never thought I would have. I am getting paid to learn and carry out tasks and duties which will prove valuable wherever I go. From organising payment and dealing with other freight forwarding companies, to having the pleasure of maintaining relationships with established customers, my job is always competitive, challenging, but very rewarding. The freight logistics industry opens doors to all sorts of career paths, and having all of this with no student loan why would I want to work anywhere else?!"

Maxim Sherstobitov, Kalgin Freight Services
Being involved in the freight industry for the last couple of years, I have developed a great understanding of how the world is really moving! You get to deal with a variety of goods ranging from weapons to racing cars. Also it’s an amazing feeling to supervise million dollar shipments and follow it through to its end destination. As the time goes by, your expertise becomes more valuable and recognized worldwide.

All that gives me great satisfaction and I am happily going to work everyday. There are no two ways about it, I am proud to be a Freight Forwarder.

Past YDC Members:

Matthew Naylor - Damco
"I can honestly say that my job could compete for the top spot in the worlds most internationally open career. I have already been on one job related trip to Singapore to gain experience, and receive weekly e-mails advising that various staff in my office are in Australia on business. I can apply to get transferred to another office literally anywhere in the world for permanent or limited periods. We often have to keep in contact with agents world wide to trace goods and I have made a number of friends internationally just by coming to work!"

Daniel Pratt - Oceanbridge Shipping Ltd
“In my particular position, I deal with Import Sea Freight from USA, Canada, South America and South Africa. In this position I am not only communicating and building relationships with other forwarders and importers in New Zealand, I build relationships and contacts Internationally, especially in these regions.”
